January 2024

Dear Partners, we are so thankful to God first and then for your faithful partnership, support, and prayers through the past year. African Hospitals Foundation has had a great year and reflection about 2023 and we are earnestly looking forward to the great things God has in store for us in 2024. To God be the glory. On our arrival to Okorase, we reported to the village chief, who welcomed us and showered us with God's blessings and thanked us for the good work we are doing for his community.

Mission House

The construction of the mission house is essentially complete. We ordered a kitchen unit to be fitted last year. Pray for us for the fitting to be completed this year. We need a dining table and chairs and for each of the seven bedrooms to be fitted with beds, side tables and a small closet. I stayed in the mission house in January 2024 on my last mission trip.

Water Supply

We are connected to the mail water lines in the village, but there was no water flow. The solution was a water well. On my return from the mission trip, we hired an engineer to dig us a water well so we could get constant water supply. By God's grace we have a 10,000-water tank filled with clean water that will supply the entire compound. We have 2 pumps that fill the tank as needed and filters to purify the water.

Electricity

The electric supply is sporadic. You never know when the electric supply will be turned off. Sections of the national grid are turned off for short periods of time to save electric power nationally. We shall need a generator to serve our emergency needs. Costco always has generators on sale at reasonable prices and we will get one to ship along next year with the medical equipment to be donated by Rotary for our needs.

Medical Clinic

The medical clinic is essentially nearing completion. The plastering is done, the burglar proof windows, the mosquito netting and the glass windows are fitted. We are currently in the process of wiring the clinic. Then we do the ceiling and the flooring later in the year. We will then level the ground, plant grass, and professionally landscape the compound.

Administrator's House

We are building a small house for the administrator and his family who will be living on the compound, keeping everything secure, maintaining the facility and making sure everything is good working order. We have just completed the roofing. He will be our ears on the ground, making sure the missionaries are safe, well cared for and supply our household daily needs.

Okorase Presbyterian Church

Greetings from Pastor Joe and the congregation of Okorase Presbyterian Church, our sister church. They thank God for you and all that you do for OPC and for your continuing support. In the past CPC has donated 100 bibles in our local language, has helped establish and furnished a Kid's Connection/Day Care Center and has awarded a scholarship to sponsor an OPC orphan Linda, through teacher's college. They look forward to future missions for our mutual benefit

OPC is a vibrant church with of over 600 active members. They have an energetic Youth Group, with their own band and a soccer team. They have very interesting programs lined up for the youth. Including Bible Boxing, Banking & Finance Anxiety Disorder and various topics on religion and relationships. I had a long meeting with Pastor Joe and the Youth President Prince on possible mission trips between CPC & OPC youth. Mission trip ideas were discussed and possible ones were Soccer mission trip, refubishments of Okorase Presbyterian Elementary School, Evangelism, Entrepreneurship training, English language training and Prison and Orphanage visitations. I proposed a soccer mission trip somtime next year for the OPC Youth Pastor, Joe Crews to travel with me on my next trip to lay down the foundation for future mission trips for CPC youth. Pastor Joe and the youth president welcomed the idea and we shall present it to the session to see if it is feasible.

Elementary School

The elementary schools need refurbishment inside and outside. Our mission is a community where children and adults are healthy, happy, and thriving to develop into their full potential. This means safe drinking water, proper sanitation, healthy bodies, and food security.

Three of the classrooms we visited had no light, dark and the heat was unbearable. AHF provided funds to wire the three classrooms to provide adequate lighting to read and write and two ceiling fans in each classroom to lower the temperature to make the heat bearable. There are no ceilings, and the tin roofs retain heat and are noisy when it rains as the raindrops spatter on the roof.

AHF is looking into the possibility of funding a ceiling in each of the three classrooms.

Medical Missions

Medical missions will be arranged when the medical clinic is completed and equipped.
